Joy has extensive experience in many disciplines of motor sport, from Speed Hill-climbing, circuit racing and recently long distance rallying.
Achieving outright records and wins at most hill-climb venues throughout the UK during the eighties and nineties driving her Cosworth powered Murrain Sports Racing car and single seater Pilbeam-Hart Joy also enjoyed competing with a spectacular supercharged 1936 Alfa Romeo at vintage meetings.
Feeling the need for a longer challenge than a hill-climb, in 2004 with her partner Trevor Hulks, she drove the 10,000 mile London to Sydney Marathon in a 1970 Morris Minor to great acclaim. As a contrast to participating in a classic car a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4 became the competition car for the 2006 Carrera Sudamericana, a 6000 mile marathon through Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. In 2008 the pair drove the Indian manufactured Hindustan Ambassador in the Karma Enduro, a rally in southern India to raise much needed funds for two worthwhile charities.
Then on 13th April 2013 Joy set off from Oceanside California which was possibly her greatest adventure yet – a journey from coast to coast across the USA. A trip of almost 3,000 miles in a 109 year old Oldsmobile horseless carriage.
